We
welcome you to our course section of Montessori Live, a web-based teacher
training center for Montessori education. We went live on November 1,
2006 as the first online teacher training program for Montessori teachers.
We hope to reach schools inside as well as outside the U.S. who are far
from live training centers, but who are committed to bringing the gift
of Montessori education to children all over the world. At this time our
site is English based.
Our goal is to provide a high quality distance learning
program that is both interactive and valuable to teachers.
Courses Scheduled:
- Foundations
- Observation
- Language
- Practicum I and II
- Math I and II
- Cultural Studies
Each curriculum content course contains:
- Videos of student/teacher lessons
- Teacher to teacher discussion videos
- Links to lesson plans
- Black line masters for each lesson
- Presented in the traditional Montessori sequence.
- Video review
- Essays and written reflections
- Chats and video conferencing
- Group projects
- Individual assignments
The course also adds important information on Montessori
programs in the public sector in the United States, including No Child
Left Behind and Exceptional Student Education requirements.
Other Training Highlights
- Introduction to MontAlign - a web-based
student tracking curriculum software that provides a school based system
for teacher planning, student management, and administrative supervision.
- Courses are designed to be 8 weeks in length.
Cohorts will be assigned so that students will have the experience of
getting to know other Montessori educators from around the world who
are beginning their journey at the same time you are.
- All courses will include video review,
essays and written reflections, chats, video conferencing, and group
projects. Individual assignments will consist of reflections of lectures
or assigned readings, as well as reflections of how the course content
will impact your own growth as an educator.
Method and Philosophy
Montessori is both an instructional
method as well as a philosophy of teaching. One provides the content;
the other provides the context. In order for your students to benefit
most, you need to become the master of both. However, knowing how to use
the materials is limited without understanding the philosophical framework
of Dr. Montessori\'s seminal work on child development and early education.
This philosophical understanding is critical even to teachers of upper
elementary and secondary students.
For this reason, we begin with
a course in Montessori Foundations. You may enroll in the Foundations
course at any time after January 1, 2007.
Thank you for spreading
the word about Montessori Live, an adult friendly model of teacher training
that will work within your personal schedule and responsibilities, as
well as give you support to develop excellent Montessori environments
for your students.
