Welcome from Kym Elder, Project Director
by Kym Elder - Saturday, 13 October 2007, 10:15 PM
Montessori is both an instructional method as well as a philosophy of teaching. One provides the content; the other provides the context. In order for your students to benefit most, you need to become the master of both. However, knowing how to use the materials is limited without understanding the philosophical framework of Dr. Montessori's seminal work on child development and early education. This philosophical understanding is critical even to educators of upper elementary and secondary students.

We are still busy preparing new courses. To date, we have completed Montessori Foundations, Observation, Elementary Language I, Elementary Math I, and the Parentcator Lectures.

For educators, we begin with a course in Montessori Foundations, followed by the Observation Course. Our foundational courses are followed by a number of curriculum courses spanning the elementary years. An overview of the early childhood curriculum will be included in the near future.

For “parentcators,” we have filmed a number of topics of interest to parents of a Montessori child. This course is organized by topic. There are no assignments, only forums to leave your impressions to those who come after.

Our courses are designed to be 9-11 weeks in length. Cohorts will be assigned so that student educators have the experience of getting to know others from around the world who are beginning their journey at the same time you are.

All educator courses will include video review, essays and written reflections, chats, video conferencing, and group projects. Individual assignments will consist of reflections on lectures or assigned readings, as well as reflections on how the course content might impact your growth as an educator.

Thanks for spreading the word about Montessori Live, an adult friendly model of teacher training that will work within your personal schedule and responsibilities, as well as give you support to develop excellent Montessori environments for your students.
